PRIVATE MIDWIFERY care

One-to-one midwifery care through pregnancy, birth, and/or postpartum - with your own known midwife.

“every woman should feel that she is the central figure in her experience of childbirth”

- Caity Atkinson

hello, i’m caity

I’m a privately practising midwife, wife, mother, and PhD candidate.

I believe women deserve current, evidence-based information to make informed decisions, alongside the support and encouragement of a midwife who trusts their instincts and strength.

I offer a holistic approach to maternity care that recognises you as a whole person — not just a pregnancy — and provides skilled, individualised care throughout.

how i work

Care begins with understanding you — your health, your context, and your priorities — and develops over time in response to your needs.

If you’ve recently found out you’re pregnant, you’re welcome to get in touch straight away. For many women, I’m their first point of contact.

Care with me includes:

  • full continuity of care, or antenatal and postnatal support through the midwifery clinic

  • longer appointments with time for discussion and information-sharing

  • thoughtful preparation for birth and the postnatal period

  • collaboration with local GPs, obstetricians, and health services when additional medical input is needed

my Specialties

  • Every mother’s journey is unique, yet too often, maternity care is restricted by a one-size-fits-all approach that leaves women feeling unheard or unsupported. A personalised approach means I take the time to listen, understand, and connect with you — your preferences, concerns, and goals — and shape my care to meet your individual needs.

I work collaboratively with you, adapting to whatever circumstances arise, to ensure you feel informed and confident in making decisions about your body, your birth, and your baby. My aim is to support you and your family in the ways that matter most to you.

  • Using my post-graduate research skills, I have the ability to engage with current evidence and communicate this information to clients. With a focus on education, I aim to empower you with knowledge to make informed decisions.

My practice recognises the human right to bodily autonomy, the right to informed consent and the right to refusal.

  • In some circumstances, medical doctors might form part of your care team. Navigating medical appointments, understanding complex medical information, and making informed decisions during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum can feel overwhelming. While providing you with midwifery care, I can help you navigate the maternity system, communicate complicated medical jargon, support whatever time you need for consideration and ensure you fully understand all of your options.

With extensive experience across multiple Southwest hospitals, I have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the local public maternity services. I maintain strong, respectful relationships with my midwifery and obstetric colleagues if collaboration or transfer is required at any time.

  • Giving birth at home offers an unparalleled sense of intimacy, allowing families to experience labour in a familiar and peaceful environment.  The integration of modern midwifery care into the homebirth setting is a distinct area of practice. My skills and approach are shaped by experience in both homebirth and hospital settings.

  • When birth takes place in hospital, I attend you in a non-clinical, supportive role. This allows my full attention and effort to be focused on you.

I help create the space for considered decision-making, ensuring you have the information you need at the right time. Drawing on my experience in our local hospitals, I can outline the usual pathways, explain what certain options or recommendations mean, and help you navigate the landscape with confidence. I’m there as a consistent support person and an advocate for clarity, so your choices remain understood and intentional throughout your hospital birth.

BEGIN here

I offer a complimentary information session where we talk through your circumstances, explore care options, and consider what support might suit you best.

  • “Birth isn’t something we suffer, but something we actively do and exult in.”
